Shannon Sharpe was born in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., on June 26, 1968. He is the younger brother of Sterling, a former NFL star wide receiver. He was only 3 months old when his parents, Pete and Mary, divorced.

Consequently, his grandmother raised him, his brother, and his sister in Glennville, Georgia. Sharpe attended Savannah State University in his early years, where he played basketball, football, and track and field.

He was a three-time Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member from 1987 to 1989. The following year, Sharpe was selected as a Kodak Division II All-American. He caught 61 passes for 1,312 yards and 18 touchdowns, as a senior.

He ended his college career with 192 receptions for 3,744 yards and 40 touchdowns. In 1989, he gained a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. He entered the workforce after graduating.

Professional Career

Although he performed very well in college football, Sharpe was not a highly-rated prospect when he entered the NFL Draft in 1990. He was considered too small to be a tight end and too large to be a receiver.

The Denver Broncos selected him with the 192nd pick in the seventh round. As a receiver, he played 2 less-than-stellar seasons, catching 29 passes. The Broncos transferred him to the tight-end position.

In his third season as a tight end, he caught 53 passes. As a result of his performances in Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII, he won two consecutive championship rings.

He returned to the Broncos after spending two years with the Baltimore Ravens, where he won another championship ring in Super Bowl XXXV. As a player, he remained there until 2003. After retiring from the NFL, he became an NFL analyst for CBS.

As a receiver, Sharpe was selected to the All-Pro Team 4 times, played in 8 Pro Bowls (1992-1998, 2001), and amassed more than 1,000 receiving yards in 3 seasons.

In the 1993 playoff game against the Los Angeles Raiders, he recorded 13 receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown, tying a postseason record.Shannon Sharpe net worth
