When I worked, I worked 80 hours a week. So when I started doing the service dogs, I got so much confidence and satisfaction from it that when I learned about these other organizations, it was hard to say, ‘No.’
Lori began her nonprofit work training service dogs for Canine Companions for Independence.
Then, she worked with SNAP, the San Diego Symphony, the Timken Museum of Art, and the San Diego Public Library Foundation.
Lori is also the Philanthropy Editor for Giving Back Magazine, where she publishes hero stories and causes weekly.
Personal Life
Lori Matsuoka married Bill Walton in 1991 after dating for a year. The couple met at a 1990 Grateful Dead party at Bill’s house.
As a band fan, Lori caught Bill’s attention as he frequently attended their events. Walton told The New York Times Magazine in 1991.
“We met at a party at my house 11 years ago. She went to UCLA, and she’s a Deadhead. What more do you need to know?”
Their relationship lasted 33 years, ending on 27 May 2024, when her husband died after a battle with cancer.
Lori did not have any children with Bill Walton. However, Bill Walton has four children (Luke, Nathan, Chris, and Adam) with his first wife Susan Guth.
