Early Life & Education

Lauren Daigle was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on September 9, 1991. She is 33 years old as of 2024 and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. 

She was influenced by the rich sounds of zydeco, blues, and Cajun music that surrounded her. Her mother affectionately referred to their home as “the music box” because Daigle always sang.

It wasn’t until Daigle contracted cytomegalovirus at the age of 15 that she began to take music seriously. This illness kept her out of school for the next two years, during which time she took voice lessons that offered her a much-needed creative outlet. 

Initially, while attending college preparatory school, she intended to pursue a career in the medical field and engage in mission work.

Daigle began her singing career in her choir and eventually led the choir at LSU. Encouraged by her family, she auditioned for American Idol in 2010 and 2012 but did not advance past the early rounds.

Lauren Daigle made her debut on North Point InsideOut’s album, Hear, recording “Close” and “You Alone.” She also featured on North Point Beginnings with “It Is Well” in 2015. 

Daigle sang background vocals on an EP for a local band, “The Assemblie,” which briefly became the top-selling album on iTunes. After filling in for an ill singer at a Centricity Music workshop, she was signed by the label in 2013.

Her first single, “Light of the World,” appeared on the 2013 album Christmas: Joy to the World and helped establish her in the Christian music scene. In 2014, she released the EP How Can It Be.

Lauren Daigle’s debut full-length album, “How Can It Be,” was released on 14 April 2015 and reached No. 16 on the Billboard Top Albums Chart. 

The lead single, “How Can It Be,” was recognized as one of the top Christian songs of 2014 and achieved significant chart success. The album spent six weeks at the top of the Christian Albums Chart, earning Gold and Platinum certifications.

Other singles from the album also performed well. “First” and “Trust in You” both reached No. one on the Billboard Christian Airplay Chart, while “Come Alive (Dry Bones)” reached No. 5.

Lauren Daigle received her first major award at the K-Love Awards in June 2015 for “How Can It Be.” The album won the 2016 Billboard Award for Top Christian Album and received a Grammy nomination.

A deluxe edition of the album with additional tracks was released in May 2016. Behold: A Christmas Collection, released on October 21, 2016, included several singles. By the end of 2016, this Christmas album debuted at No. 77 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Christian Albums Chart.

In 2017, Daigle performed “Almost Human” for the “Blade Runner 2049: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.”

The song “You Say” was released on July 13, 2018, as the leading single from Lauren Daigle’s third studio album, Look Up Child, which came out on September 7, 2018. 

This track achieved a record-breaking 60-week stint at the top of the “Hot Christian Songs” chart, marking the longest run for a solo artist. 

It entered mainstream radio on January 15, 2019, eventually reaching No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. “You Say” earned the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

Upon release, Look Up Child debuted at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard 200, with 115,000 album-equivalent units sold. It became Daigle’s highest-charting and most successful Christian album since 2016.Lauren Daigle

On March 8, 2023, Lauren Daigle released “Thank God I Do,” the lead single from her self-titled album. She followed this with two promotional singles, “Waiting” and “New.”

Atlantic Records released the album in two parts, with the first volume on May 12 and the complete album on September 8, 2023. 

“Thank God I Do” reached No. 11 on Bubbling Under Hot 100 and No. 1 on Billboard Christian Songs. The album debuted at No. 21 on Billboard 200 and topped the Top Christian Albums, marking Daigle’s fourth consecutive No. 1 Christian album.

Her participation in a 2020 COVID-19 protest led the New Orleans mayor to request that she not perform in the city’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve segment, which Daigle clarified was a spontaneous decision.

Other Projects

In 2015, Lauren Daigle joined the Outcry Tour with Hillsong United and later the Winter Jam Tour in 2016. She headlined her first sold-out tour, A Night With Lauren Daigle, in late 2016 and toured with for King & Country. 

Her first Christmas album, Behold: A Christmas Collection, released in October 2016, reached No. 29 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, she featured in Needtobreathe’s “Hard Love” for The Shack and co-wrote “Almost Human” for the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack, which topped the Billboard Soundtrack Sales Chart. 

She has collaborated with Jon Foreman, CeCe Winans, Reba McEntire, and Blessing Offor, performed at Austin City Limits in 2019, and sang the national anthem at the 2020 College Football Playoff Championship. In 2023, Daigle launched her second headlining tour, The Kaleidoscope Tour.
