Early Life 
Donalds was born on October 28, 1978, in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. His single mother raised him. In 1996, he graduated from Nazareth Regional High School in East Flatbush.
In 1997, he was charged with marijuana possession, but those charges were dropped as part of a pre-trial diversion program, and Donalds was fined total $150. Despite pleading no contest to felony theft charges in 2000, his record was sealed and expunged after he attempted to defraud a bank (by depositing a bad check).
According to an attorney interviewed by PolitiFact, Donalds wouldn’t have been able to get his record expunged if the state considered him a felon.
Regarding his education, he attended Florida A&M University and subsequently transferred. In 2002, he graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in finance and marketing.
Career Journey
In 2003, Donalds began his professional career as a credit analyst at TIB Bank. The following year, he was promoted to senior credit analyst, commercial credit manager, assistant vice president, and credit manager.
After leaving TIB Bank in 2007, he became a portfolio manager at CMG Surety LLC. In 2015, he joined Wells Fargo Advisors.
Donald’s involvement in the Tea Party movement encouraged him to run for office. In 2012, he ran for the United States House of Representatives in Florida’s 19th congressional district.
He finished fifth of six candidates. He was considered a potential candidate for the US House in Florida’s 19th congressional district in 2014 after Trey Radel resigned, but he did not run. 
In 2016, Donald was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. As a member of the Florida House, he worked as the chairman of the Insurance and Banking Subcommittee and represented the 80th district from 2016 to 2020.
In the 2020 congressional election, he defeated Democratic candidate Cindy Banyai. In the January 2023 Speaker of the US House of Representatives election, he was nominated for the speakership in the fourth through eleventh rounds of voting.
In October 2023, Donalds was a candidate for the third nomination to become Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
In January 2021, he voted to not certify electors from Arizona and Pennsylvania for 2020. Although he did not believe that President Joe Biden was a “legitimate” president of the United States, he acknowledged Biden’s legitimacy as president.

On June 15, 1999, Byron Donalds married to Bisa Hall, but the couple divorced in 2002. After that, he married Erika on March 15, 2003. They have three sons together and live in Naples, Florida.
