Grace has openly discussed her complicated background, including a period in foster care, as revealed in an interview with American rapper and actor Common for ThinkCommon. 

Eventually, she was raised by her mother. While the identity of her parents remains unknown, Grace has acknowledged her father’s work as an activist.

However, she did not mention any details about her siblings. She is of American nationality and is of mixed ethnicity. Grace is Caucasian on her mom’s side and African-American on her father’s.

Career Journey

Grace Harry started her career working with catering companies. Later, she branched off and started her catering company. 

She served as an executive chef for “The Cosby Show” while working with her catering company, which specialized in the entertainment industry. After the show ended in 1992, she began a music career.

She stated that it was easy for her to transition since she already knew people in the music industry.  She said about her decision, 

“When the show ended in 1992, I knew it was time for a complete change. I was passionate about bringing people together and was socially immersed in the creative scene. I learned a lot about great photographers, singers, and artists, so it only made sense for me to transition to music. “

Her career in the music industry spans over 31 years. She started working with MCA Records before moving to Jive Records and Geffen Records. She also worked as the executive marketing vice president and creative services at “Island Def Jam.”

 During her career, she has also worked as Usher’s manager and previously worked as a board member of the singer’s philanthropic organization, “Usher’s New Look.” She currently works as a ‘Joy Strategist.’ 

Marriage & Divorce

Grace Harry was previously married to R&B star Usher. The former couple first met in 2009 after Usher divorced his ex-wife, Tameka Foster. They married in late 2015. Unfortunately, they announced their divorce in 2018.

According to multiple sources, the reason behind the divorce of the couple was that Grace desired to have children through surrogacy. In contrast, Usher wasn’t keen on the idea and preferred adoption over surrogacy.

However, despite their separation, they released a joint statement stating that they still maintain a good relationship with one another and keep communicating.

Children

Grace Harry is the mother of two children from a previous relationship before she weds Usher. She did not reveal their father’s name. Her daughter, Leaf McLean, is a singer who released her debut rap album, “Trinity, in 2017.
